It appears as white hygroscopic powder or granules with no odor and a bitter taste. It is insoluble in Water and soluble in dilute Acetic Acid at ambient conditions. On a commercial scale, it is usually produced by two methods named Direct or American and Indirect or French method. A USPF Grade chemical is the one that conforms to the criteria of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the National Formulary (NF).
