Methanol also known as methyl alcohol, wood alcohol, and wood spirit is a volatile, colorless liquid at room temperature. It is the simplest member of the alcohol family, with a single carbon group. Solvents specially synthesized for electronics production are known as electronic grade solvents. Heavy metal concentrations in these solvents are extremely low, measured in parts per billion or parts per trillion. Several purification stages are necessary to attain the desired levels of purity. These solvents are often used as cleaners and etchants in semiconductor and microprocessor manufacturing.
