Indigo Carmine Solution, also known as Acid Blue 74 and Indigotindisulfonate Sodium has the chemical formula C16H8N2Na2O8S2. It appears as indigo to dark blue powder and its solution has a bluish-purple color. It is soluble in Water and Ethanol at ambient conditions. Lab Alley’s Indigo Carmine Solution contains 0.14% by weight of Phosphoric Acid, 0.08% by weight of Indigotrisulfonic Acid, Tripotassium Salt, and 99.78% by weight of Water. The color of this solution is easily discharged by Nitric Acid and Chlorates. Due to its high purity, Indigo Carmine Solution is highly recommended for use in laboratory and medical applications.
Indigo Carmine Uses: Food colorant, dye tests, detect amniotic fluid leaks, chromoendscopy, cystoscopy, obstetric surgery, urologic surgery, chromopertubation, endoscopy, amniocenteses, emr, GI procedures. Indigo Carmine is used for staining and labeling degenerative discs.
Indigo Carmine has been used to dye wool directly and silk from either a formic acid or sulfuric acid bath, and that wool and nylon are printed directly. Indigo Carmine is a colorant for nylon, surgical sutures, foods and ingested drugs. As a reagent for functional kidney tests, for detection of nitrates, chlorates and in testing milk.
