It appears as violet-blue hygroscopic crystals having good solubility in water at ambient conditions. Cobalt(II) Chloride Dihydrate can be prepared in aqueous solution by reacting Cobalt(II) Hydroxide or Cobalt(II) Carbonate with Hydrochloric Acid. The dihydrate is then obtained by evaporation and cooling of the saturated aqueous solution between 120.2 °C and 51.25 °C. Laboratory grade is also known as the Chemically Pure (CP) and Laboratory Reagent (LR).
